Holiday Shopping Made Easy
(ARA) - Amid the holiday necessities of sending seasonal cards, preparing family feasts, hosting parties and decorating the house, shopping doesn’t have to add stress. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), nearly 40 percent of Americans have consumer electronics items at the top of their holiday wish lists this year. In light of this, many retailers are offering a variety of in-store and online services to make finding the perfect consumer electronics gifts easy.
This year, there is no one-size-fits-all perfect consumer electronics gift. The hottest gift on the market may not be the right one for your friends and family. As you head into the holiday shopping season, it’s important to be prepared with the right information about the people you are shopping for to ensure you select gifts that will fit into and enhance their lives.
Below are a few tips from consumer electronics retailer Best Buy:
1. You wouldn’t head into a home renovation project without the right tools, so don’t head to the stores without doing a little research of your own. Start by thinking about the unique interests of the people on your list. Are they music or movie lovers? Gaming enthusiasts? Historians who preserve all the memories for their families? Think about your friends’ and family’s different interests, needs and lifestyles prior to hitting the stores. Ask questions such as:
* What are their tastes and hobbies?
* How tech-savvy are they?
* What kinds of electronics do they already own?
* How might they use the gift you’re considering? Where? When?
* Do they need help with installation or set-up?
2. For more specific gift ideas, familiarize yourself with the variety of products on the market by studying Sunday newspaper inserts and visiting store Web sites. There are many helpful Web sites out there, including www.askablueshirt.com, a unique online resource that gives consumers access to:
* hot holiday gift ideas to fit even the least tech savvy person on your gift list,
* gift checklists so you remember the important accessories that make a gift complete,
* helpful holiday shopping strategies and
* a customizable wish list so you can drop hints to friends and family.
In addition, the site offers comic relief for the tired, over-shopped customer, courtesy of comedian and Best Buy roving holiday reporter Mo Rocca.
3. When you’re ready to start your shopping adventure, head to the store where you feel you will receive the best customer service. A recent NRF/American Express consumer choice poll rated Nordstrom, Coldwater Creek, Marshall Field’s, Kohl’s, Boscov’s, Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), JCPenney, Lane Bryant, Eddie Bauer and Best Buy among their top 10 retailers for customer service. For even more customized service, make an appointment with a Best Buy Personal Shopping Assistant (PSA). This free service in select major metropolitan area stores offers one-on-one guidance on product selection throughout the store as well as expedited check-out – a priceless commodity during the holiday season! Busy customers can even call ahead to book an appointment and have a PSA set aside a selection of recommended products.
4. Many people overlook what truly makes a perfect gift – completing it. Don’t forget the accessories that help your friends and family get the most out of their gifts. For example, we all know that iPods will be hot this year. Why not add the car adaptors or the speaker system docking stations that allow users to enjoy their iPod soundtracks anytime, anywhere? And don’t forget simple things like batteries, cables and services like professional home theater installation or Geek Squad service to make using those gifts easy.
If all of this seems a bit overwhelming, remember that you are not alone in the quest to find the perfect gifts this year. Knowledgeable in-store experts are ready to help you uncover the unique interests and hobbies of those on your holiday shopping list and fill your cart with gifts that will bring smiles to friends and family this holiday season.
